Don’t Coach Your Child From The Stands

  • At some point, your child will probably play a sport…for at least one season.
  • If you’re the coach on the sideline, coach well.
  • If you’re the dad in the stands, cheer loud.
  • Don’t coach your child from the stands.
  • Encourage your child (and their team) from the stands.

  1. I coach third grade boys’ basketball. These kids are already overwhelmed just trying to learn the game. Their parents coaching from the stands does so much harm to what I’m trying to do and is destroying the boys’ love of the game, and maybe even any organized sport. It’s no longer “play” when you have your parent yelling what to do.

  2. Peter…I totally agree. I’ve seen it too many times. Thanks for reading! And thank you for commenting! I really appreciate both.
